Heritage Open Days

Friends

From 10-19th September, the Friends of Nottingham Cathedral were pleased to welcome people to the Cathedral for the national ‘Heritage Open Days’.

Guided tours of the Cathedral were offered, including in Cantonese, for anyone interested in learning more about this architectural and spiritual gem. The tour guide, developed by ‘the Friends’ explored the history, principal features and decoration of the Cathedral. The Friends curated a small exhibition in the Lady Chapel of Pugin treasures and original correspondence from Pugin regarding the design and construction of the Cathedral. The Crypt, which is normally closed, was open to visitors for the occasion. Two talks are also hosted during the week, which explored the science of paint analysis, the various paint schemes of the Cathedral, the architecture of the building and the life of A.W.N Pugin.
