The Friends' Launch Founder Member Campaign

Friends

Become a 'Friend' of Nottingham Cathedral, and share in their mission to make the Cathedral more widely known across the city, region and diocese.

Founded in 2021, at the request of Bishop Patrick, The Friends of Nottingham Cathedral was established to complement the Cathedral’s hopes to become a landmark destination within the City and better known across the Diocese. It has ambitious plans to further promote the Cathedral’s unique heritage, to build a stronger more visible and active presence in the region and to encourage everyone across the Diocese to become more involved in the life and mission of their ‘mother church.’

The Friends’ aren’t a parish council, a Catholics-only club or just for Cathedral parishioners. The Cathedral is a precious spiritual, architectural, musical, cultural and historical treasure for all people across this region and especially here in Nottingham. As such, members’ of the Friends are diverse, coming from many walks of life and interested in supporting different aspects of the life and mission of the Cathedral. What connects them is their love for this beautiful Pugin build in the heart of Nottingham. Some Friends'  support the work of the Cathedral solely through their annual membership, others prefer to roll their sleeves up and get involved in the various events and activities hosted throughout the year.

In the last 18 months, the Friends' have played a key role supporting various musical and civic events at the cathedral, practically and financially, such as the Platinum Jubilee Concert, the Requiem Mass for Her Late Majesty the Queen, First Vespers of the Immaculate Conception, the Carol Service and Lenten Chamber Concert. They collated materials for a new tour guide and successfully delivered a programme of events for the national Heritage Open Days in September, including tours, talks with conservators and even guides in Cantonese! They have hosted lectures on conservation, history and Catholic architecture. And a highlight of the last year was the incredible execution of ‘Pugin Illuminated.’ By providing the financial and practical means for the Cathedral to participate in the City’s Light Night trail for the first time, over 2000 people were welcomed to the Cathedral over two beautiful evenings.

The Friends are now launching a ‘Founder Member Campaign’ to garner even more support for their mission and the life of the Cathedral. By becoming a founding member before 1st July 2023 you will not only provide valuable support to our mission but also receive access to a more prestigious range of benefits than other members such as an invitation to an informal event with Bishop Patrick this Summer, and a commemorative photograph of the restoration work.  Founder memberships are priced the same as other categories, with options starting at £25 - Buy one for yourself, your family, or it makes a great gift!
