Vespers for the Immaculate Conception

Diocesan

On the 7th of December, the Cathedral hosted the First Vespers for the Immaculate Conception, presided by Bishop Patrick and with music from the Cathedral choir.

Alongside St Hugh of Lincoln, Our Lady Immaculate is co-patroness of the Diocese and it was therefore fitting, that those gathered sought her intercession as they celebrated the installation of new members into the Cathedral Chapter. The Bishop reminded those gathered that the heart of the ministry of the Cathedral chapter ‘is to pray for the work and mission of this Cathedral, the Mother Church of our diocese, and to help advise the Bishop on matters concerning the governance of the diocese.’ He thanked those Canons stepping down from long, dedicated, generous and active service to Chapter; Canons Alan, Don, Michael and Provost Emeritus, Johnathan. He then expressed gratitude to those priests who have agreed to serve as new members of the Chapter, Canons-elect Andrew, John, Matthew and Peter, and Honorary Canons-elect, Stanley and Stephen. The festivities then continued in the Cathedral Hall, with drinks and a buffet for those gathered. The vigil also marked the first anniversary of the foundation of the ‘Friends of Nottingham Cathedral.’
