Over 1000 children from across Nottingham performed in this year’s Schools’ Carol Services, hosted over four evenings at St Barnabas Cathedral Nottingham and St Philip Neri Parish in Mansfield.

The Cathedral was pleased to host three of these concerts and to welcome many children and their families for this joyous Christmas celebration.

The Schools’ Carol Services are part of the National Schools Singing Programme, which is now in its second year in our Diocese. Based at the Cathedral, under the leadership of Mr Gregory Treloar and Mr Chris Davies, the programme now works with 14 Catholic schools in the Nottingham and Mansfield area. The children receive musical tuition each week in their schools and in addition to this, there are currently 60 children from this programme meeting weekly at the Cathedral in our children’s choirs. Gregory Treloar, Diocesan Director of Music, commented ‘It’s great for children to be able experience faith in a real and tangible way, through the beauty of sacred music and in such a spectacular Cathedral Church!’
