£20,000 Grant for Cathedral

Restoring Pugin

Pilgrim Trust has awarded the Cathedral a generous grant in support of its Restoring Pugin Project.

The Dean of the Cathedral, Canon Malachy Brett, is delighted to announce that Nottingham Cathedral's Restoring Pugin Project has been awarded a grant of £20,000 from Pilgrim Trust, towards the restoration of the east end chapels.

Pilgrim Trust is an independent Charitable Trust whose purpose is to give grants to charities that focus on preserving the UK’s heritage, or on bringing about social change. They aim to improve the life chances of the most vulnerable and preserve the best of our past for the public to enjoy.

These aims are a very good fit for the Restoring Pugin Project which will bring back to full glory the rich neo-Gothic decorations of Pugin's original vision for the Cathedral in Nottingham. Our outreach work has a focus on supporting vulnerable groups such as asylum seekers and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

The £20,000 grant from Pilgrim Trust is an important contribution to the 'partnership funding' the Cathedral needs to raise in order to qualify for the major award pending from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Canon Malachy said, " We are extremely pleased and grateful to the Trustees of Pilgrim Trust for making this award to our Cathedral.  They have many calls on their funds and we are delighted that they perceived how well Restoring Pugin helps them to achieve their goals to preserve important heritage and at the same time, improve opportunities for the most vulnerable."
