Heritage Open Days at Nottingham Cathedral

A masterpiece of the Gothic revival, designed by the celebrated Architect, A.W.N. Pugin in the Early English style and built in the early 1840s.
The Cathedral will be open during its normal hours (7am~7pm), subject to Cathedral Services and special events such as weddings and funerals.
Leaflets will be available for those who wish to go round by themselves. On selected days, (listed below), there will be Guided Tours and Family Workshops.
There will also be a short talk presenting the Cathedral’s art and architecture, and in particular Restoring Pugin, the Cathedral's ongoing project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. A major aim of that project, now in its delivery phase, is to recreate the original decoration in the ambulatory and the three eastern chapels, which was begun under A.W.N. Pugin in the early 1840s and probably completed by the early 1850s. The project's Conservators have discovered remarkable schemes, hitherto almost entirely unknown.
Due to on-going work in the northern ambulatory and two of the eastern chapels, those areas, together with the crypt will be inaccessible this year. There will, however, a small display to present the newly-discovered decorative schemes and the progress of the work.
